Heavy rains that have caused flooding in Gujarat’s Saurashtra region is creating a havoc in the area.
Sixty-three people have been reported dead and more than 6,000 people were evacuated to safer places due to the flooding.
The Army has been put on alert in many affected areas of the state.
Apart from Saurashtra region, Ahmedabad, Junagarh, Jamnagar and Rajkot experienced heavy rains in last few days.
Bharuch, Narmada and Surat in south Gujarat and Bhavnagar and Surendranagar districts in Saurashtra are the districts worst affected by floodwaters.
The rains did not have any mercy on the roads and railway tracks. The traffic on the national highway number eight connecting Ahmedabad and Mumbai was jammed at several places and the floodwaters on the railway tracks in Rajkot district interrupted rail traffic in Saurashtra region.
The government has set up an emergency response centre for managing relief and rescue work.
